Chapter 26 The Disappointment
A flash of disappointment passed through Ronan’s eyes.

Though she had become a medical professor, she was still young. Perhaps she had advantages in some areas, but if his condition could really be cured so easily, he wouldn’t have suffered for all these years.
For the first time in eight years, Ronan, who had endured countless tormenting rainy nights, fell into a deep sleep.
The next morning, Ronan had intended to leave early to avoid running into Isla.
He didn’t want to sit at the same breakfast table with her.
But when he opened the door, he was met with her seated at the table, unusually wearing a slightly sweet, obliging smile. “Good morning. Are you making breakfast? I can help,” she said.
Ronan paused. Who asked her for help? Was she already planning to eat my cooking a second round?
He noticed the blue shadows under Isla’s eyes and thought of last night. A complex feeling flashed through his heart.
Perhaps because of the good sleep, his legs today felt unusually light, free from the usual heaviness.
It was rare.
Ronan entered the kitchen silently.
Well, it was just breakfast.
And coincidentally, he was hungry, too.
He didn’t cook specially for her.

At Cloudie University, Logan reviewed the security footage, his expression dark. “Isla, why didn’t you call me when this happened?”
Earlier, Isla had asked him to check the cameras upon arriving at the office.
He had been puzzled, but after watching the footage, he saw that she had been cornered by a few students.

Isla held a cup in her hand, took a small sip, and watched the footage calmly. “My phone was dead.”
Suddenly, she paused the video.
“Who is this?” she asked. Because of the heavy rain, the footage wasn’t perfectly clear.
But it did capture someone nearby holding a phone and taking photos.
In such pouring rain, Isla didn’t believe it was a selfie.
Logan frowned. “I didn’t even notice. Do you want me to check it out?”
Isla shook her head. “First, bring those boys to the office. I’ll handle this myself.”
She thought that even if some students here were unruly, they wouldn’t be bold enough to openly harass female students on campus.
That was why she had Logan check the footage.
Unexpectedly, Isla spotted something unusual.
Logan shivered slightly.
Isla really wasn’t as simple as she seemed on the surface.

At the teaching building, a few boys walked casually toward the classroom, joking and laughing about what happened yesterday.
“Damn, it’s such a shame. If it weren’t on campus, I definitely wouldn’t have let that guy off.”
“Yeah, that girl is so gorgeous, her legs, and her sexy waist? If we could get with her just once, it’d be amazing”
“Shit, right?”
Before they could finish, someone blocked their way.
They were annoyed, but when they saw who it was, their faces changed instantly. “Mr. Woods, you need us for something?” one stammered.
Logan’s face darkened. He kicked one of them in the stomach. “Who were you just talking about, huh?”

The boy paled. “M–Mr. Woods, it’s a misunderstanding. We didn’t know she had a connection with you.”
Logan’s gaze was icy as he looked at the three. “Follow me.”
The three exchanged nervous glances, their faces pale.
Just moments ago, they had been laughing so happily; now their expressions were grim.
Logan, the youngest son of a military family–his father the mayor, grandfather a high–ranking officer–was a man of power and influence.
Though Logan kept a low profile and it wasn’t widely known at school, those in their social circle were well aware.
They hadn’t expected that the woman from yesterday afternoon would be so closely associated with Logan. The three shuddered involuntarily.
They were doomed.
As they walked, the boys began to realize something was off.
Logan had said he was going to teach them a lesson, but why had he brought them over to the office building?
This area was full of teachers. Was he planning to report them?
Their nerves were stretched thin when Logan suddenly stopped and knocked on the door of a nearby office.
“Come in,” a voice sounded.
Logan pushed the door open, then turned back to the three trembling boys and said coldly, “What are you standing there for? Weren’t you all so arrogant yesterday?”
Their faces burned with embarrassment as one of them asked in confusion, “Mr. Woods, why did you bring us here?”
“You’ll know once you go inside,” Logan replied.
The three exchanged uneasy glances, but in the end, they forced themselves to step in.
The very next second, their eyes went wide as they saw the woman sitting at the desk.
“It’s you,” they blurted out.
Isla tugged at the corner of her lips. “We meet again.”

Meanwhile, back at the Beaumont residence, Aurora hadn’t slept a wink after learning that Isla was a professor at Cloudie University.
Jealousy had taken root in her heart and was growing so wild it nearly consumed her.
But the following day brought her some good news.
On Ronan’s side, people had already been sent to wipe every unfavorable rumor about her from the media. Even the hospital, now fully aware of her connection to Ronan, treated her with deference and invited her back to work.
