His voice was soft, tears suddenly welling up in his eyes.
“Mom, what nonsense are you talking?”
“You and Amanda teamed up to lie to me, didn’t you?”
Andrew looked at Betty, hoping she’d admit it was all just a lie.
But Betty stayed silent, her silence speaking volumes.
Andrew completely lost his strength, stumbling and collapsing to the floor.
He suddenly remembered.
Amanda had come to him for a loan, what had he done then?
He’d let Kimberly humiliate Amanda, then spent eighty million chartering a luxury cruise ship for Kimberly just to vent his anger.
What must Amanda have thought then?
Andrew choked back a sob, tears streaming down his face.
“Mom, I know I was wrong. Tell me where Amanda is. I’ll find her the best doctors. She’ll be fine.”
Seeing Andrew’s remorse, Betty subtly shook her head.
“I won’t tell you. Andrew, people must atone for their mistakes.”
“Do you think she didn’t know about all those ‘accidents’ you arranged over three years to avoid getting the marriage license?”
“She was just deceiving herself, pretending you loved her. Would someone like that force another to suicide?”
Andrew was finally driven out of the house by Betty.
He wandered dazedly along the roadside.
Kimberly’s calls kept coming, one after another.
Andrew knew he’d been wrong.
He understood Betty’s meaning-he’d piled all his mistakes onto Amanda.
Believing the engagement and obligation had trapped him.

But how cruel that had been to Amanda too…
Andrew returned to the hospital.
Kimberly’s eyes lit up the moment she saw him.
A smile played on her lips.
“Andrew, I knew you wouldn’t abandon me.”
Kimberly tried to take his hand, but Andrew avoided her touch.
He looked at her coldly.
“Did Amanda force you into that suicide attempt?”
Kimberly hadn’t expected the question again. She opened her mouth, still speaking with defiant confidence.

“She did. Andrew, you can’t marry someone like that… She’s just a gold digger. If you marry her, she’ll drain the Johnson family dry.”
“I’ve had people investigate.”
Andrew ignored Kimberly’s words, his eyes filled with disappointment and regret.
“Amanda had no contact with you. How could she possibly force you to attempt suicide?”
“The doctor said your sleeping pill dose wasn’t lethal. That attempt wasn’t life-threatening.”
Andrew’s voice grew softer, as if speaking to himself.
He suddenly realized how stupid he’d been.
To believe such an obvious lie.
Realizing he’d been deceived, Andrew immediately cut off Kimberly’s funding.
Along with a series of bills she now needed to pay back in full,
Kimberly cried and made scenes, but nothing swayed Andrew.
If Kimberly hadn’t appeared, he and Amanda would never have come to this…
