Chapter 5
I shot back, “What rebirth? I have no idea what you’re talking about.”
My eyes darted away as the elevator’s cramped space made me feel suffocated.
Anthony suddenly flashed a sinister smile.
Finally, we reached the first floor. The moment the elevator doors opened, I bolted out of there.
That night, lying in bed, I tossed and turned, trying to figure out what Anthony meant by those words.
Could he have been reborn too?
I woke up the next day with a splitting headache.
Standing by the floor–to–ceiling windows at the office, I spotted Anthony chatting happily with a female employee at the coffee shop downstairs.
That woman’s silhouette looked incredibly familiar–it was
Anna!
I quickly investigated and discovered she had actually submitted a resume to Ryan’s company.

She was applying for a receptionist position.
Indeed, with Anna’s looks, she’d be perfect for the front desk.
“What are you looking at?” Ryan asked.
He walked over to my side and followed my gaze downward.
Then he said with confusion, “Isn’t that Aria Diaz, the new intern from the administrative department? She and Mr. Reed seem pretty close.”
“Aria?” I forced myself to stay calm as I told Ryan, “Help me look into her resume, especially her educational background and work experience.”
Ryan gave me a sharp look. “You’re scared?”
I replied, “I’ve been burned before, so I have to be cautious.”
I turned and headed toward my office, not wanting him to see the coldness in my eyes.
In my previous life, this was exactly how Anna had gradually infiltrated my life, ultimately taking everything from me.
Half an hour later, Ryan knocked on my office door. His expression was grave as he said, “You were right. Aria’s resume

is fake. Her real name is Anna, she graduated from the University of Washington, and she was Anthony’s college classmate.”
My hand holding the pen trembled slightly.

The trajectory of my past life seemed to be repeating itself, even though I’d tried my best to avoid Anthony. Was I still destined to meet a tragic end?
Ryan continued, “There’s something even stranger.”
,
He handed me a document. “The recommendation letter
she used when she was hired was signed by Anthony, but handwriting analysis suggests she might have written it herself.”
I let out a cold laugh. “Anthony knows exactly who she is. They’re putting on an act. Ryan, I need you to do me a favor.”
He nodded without hesitation. “Anything.”
Even though I’d discovered them, I still didn’t know what they were planning.
Perhaps by following this lead, I could uncover the truth behind why I had fallen seriously ill at such a young age last Christmas in my previous life.
I installed hidden cameras in my office, focusing on monitoring

At the same time, I had Luna deliberately “accidentally” reveal in front of Anna that we were about to sign a major deal with a Japanese client.
Three days later, Luna burst into my office excitedly. “She took the bait! I saw her going through your desk drawers!”
The surveillance footage clearly showed Anna sneaking into my office during lunch break and using her phone to photograph the design blueprints in the filing cabinet. What made my blood run cold was that she had also opened the pill box next to my computer and mixed several white pills into my vitamin bottle.
Ryan’s face instantly turned pale.
He said, “Is she trying to poison you? We need to call the police.”
“No. It’s not time to involve the police yet.” I stared at the screen coldly. “We still can’t confirm whether Anthony is involved.”
In my previous life, I was diagnosed with liver cancer at thirty. The doctor had suspected it was related to long–term exposure
to toxic substances.
Now that I think about it, perhaps it wasn’t an accident at all.
