Skylar woke up and shifted slightly, her whole body aching terribly. Opening her eyes, Skylar realized she was still in the same awkward sleeping position as last night. No wonder her body ached so much.
Skylar looked up to see Yosef still asleep. His incredibly long and lush lashes cast delicate shadows beneath his eyes.
Skylar thought to herself, ‘How come a guy has lashes longer and thicker than a girl’s?‘
Skylar couldn’t help but reach out to touch Yosef’s delicate lashes. They quivered beneath her fingertips, tickling them gently. Skylar thought, ‘Is he waking up?‘
Feeling guilty, Skylar tried to pull her hand back, but just as she started to, Yosef caught her wrist and pulled it right back. He took her hand and placed it over his eyes, his voice still husky from sleep. “If you want to touch, go ahead–feel to your heart’s content he murmured, teasingly
His warm hand came to rest atop hers. Yosef’s hand was warm from sleep, a stark contrast to Skylar’s, whose fingers would turn icy the instant they touched the cold air.
Yosef rubbed her hands gently. “Why are your hands so cold?”
Skylar snapped back to reality at the sound of his voice. ‘Wait, this is way too intimate,‘ she realized, suddenly aware of how close they were.
Skylar pursed her lips slightly and gave her hand a gentle tug, but Yosef’s grip held firm. “Let go,” Skylar said, her voice cold.
Yosef obediently released her hand. Freed from his grasp, Skylar sat up and hurriedly left the bed, making her way to the nearby
sofa.
“Skylar, thank you for taking care of me last night,” Yosef murmured, his voice still thick.
“Why did you drink last night?” Skylar couldn’t hold back and blurted out the question that had been weighing on her mind all night.
Yosef didn’t answer right away. He paused, carefully considering how to respond so as not to offend or upset her.
After a long pause, Yosef finally spoke slowly, “It’s nothing serious. I just felt a bit down and wanted a drink to shake the stress off.”
‘That’s such a half–assed answer,‘ she cursed inwardly.
Skylar felt a sudden wave of irritation for no reason. However, she only let out a neutral “Oh,” her tone betrayed nothing.
Yosef caught the chill in Skylar’s voice, and anxiety washed over him. ‘Did I say something wrong?‘ he wondered, suddenly flustered.
Yosef kept his face straight, but his brows drew together ever so slightly, betraying a hint of unease. ‘Did I say something wrong just now?‘ Yosef wondered, confused. ‘Why is she suddenly upset?‘
Yosef said softly and nodded, “Sorry, I shouldn’t have crossed the line.”
Yosef sensed something was off. ‘Did my answer just now make her uncomfortable? Is that why she’s upset?‘ he wondered anxiously.
Chapter 320
Yosef hurriedly explained, “No, Skylar, I didn’t mean to blame you or anything.
“L… Yosef began feeling hesitant.
Skylar gave him a cool, distant smile and cut him off. “Given our current circumstances, you don’t owe me any explanations?
Yosef was rendered speechless. Neither of them spoke, and a heavy, awkward silence descended upon them.
Yosef lowered his gaze to his phone. Meanwhile, not knowing what to do, Skylar absentmindedly picked up a magazine from the table and started flipping through it.
The doorbell suddenly rang sharply, cutting through the icy atmosphere in the room.
The sharp ring shattered the icy tension that had settled over the room.
“Good morning, sir/madam. Here’s the breakfast you ordered.”
Yosef stepped aside, allowing the room service attendant to wheel in the breakfast cart.
The staff member placed the breakfast on the coffee table beside the sofa, beaming brightly. “Enjoy your meal,” she said cheerfully.
“Thank you,” Skylar said with a nod.
The staff member left the room.
The room grew heavy with tension once again.
Yosef moved to the other end of the sofa and said gently, “Skylar, let’s have some breakfast.”
But Skylar didn’t feel like dealing with Yosef at that moment, but she wasn’t about to deprive herself either. She picked up her plate of English breakfast and began eating it slowly.
Seeing Skylar eat, Yosef felt a flicker of relief. ‘If she’s willing to eat, maybe things aren’t as bad as I thought,‘ he told himself. ‘If she’s still willing to eat, that means there’s a good chance I can make it up to her,‘
Yosef took a bite of his breakfast, glanced at Skylar, and said softly, “Skylar, I’m so sorry.”
