As soon as she stepped inside, her eyes darted around the office, making sure she was alone and checking for any surveillance cameras.
Not seeing any surveillance cameras, Minnie breathed a sigh of relief. ‘No cameras,‘ she thought, finally allowing herself to relax a little.
‘That’s unusual. Executive offices usually have surveillance cameras inside,‘ Minnie thought with relief. ‘But here, they just installed at the entrance!
Seizing the moment while the office was empty, Minnie quickly but cautiously began searching through every nook and cranny.
After scouring the entire office, she finally found the new acquisition list in the very bottom drawer of Skylar’s desk. With trembling fingers, Minnie pulled out her phone and quickly snapped a photo of the acquisition list.
After carefully covering her tracks, Minnie gathered the cleaning supplies she had brought and slipped out of the office.
The moment Minnie stepped out, she sent the photos from her phone with a text: [Don’t forget what you promised me.]
The reply came almost instantly: [Don’t worry, you’ll get your cut.]
Minnie finally let her guard down, the tension melting from her face as she allowed herself the first genuine smile of the day.
The next morning, the first thing Skylar did upon arriving at the office was check the drawer containing the acquisition list.
She had placed a strand of her hair across the drawer as a marking. But at that moment, she noticed it was gone. “So the mole made their move yesterday, huh?” Skylar concluded.
Karrie knocked and entered the office. “Ms. Lambert,” she greeted.
“Have you found anything?” Skylar asked.
Karrie placed a sheet of paper listing the persons of interest in front of Skylar. “Here’s the full list.”
“Hmm, let’s set that aside for now. Has anything seemed out of the ordinary in the company these past couple of days?”
Karrie paused to think. “Nothing comes to mind.
“Wait a minute. Speaking of something off, I’m not sure if what happened yesterday counts.”
“And what happened?”
“I heard that yesterday, Minnie from the Acquisitions Department treated the Secretarial Department to some snacks. She also asked Audra about your usual departure time, claiming her supervisor wanted to invite you to dinner.”
Karrie had been viewing everything around her with suspicion ever since she was in charge of investigating the mole. Hence, she was particularly wary of Minnie’s sudden friendly overtures yesterday.
Several days have passed since the incident. But recently, Minnie made friendly overtures. The timing seemed highly suspicious.
“Understood. Don’t mention this to anyone. You may leave now.”
“Yes, Ms. Lambert.”
Skylar stood up, walked to the shelf behind her and carefully removed the glass eyes from a stuffed doll. One of the stuffed animal’s ever was a m surveillance camera, placed there for one reason–to catch the mole in the act.
Skylar copied the footage onto her tumputer as she scoffed inwardly. She even put on a disguise. Did she think that would fool me?
Did that mole think a little disguise would keep me from finding them? How naive

Skylar immediately requested surveillance footage from the janitorial area, where she finally spotted the mole in disguise. “Minnie. So she is the mole.” Skylar smirked, choosing not to reveal anything yet.
Skylar thought to herself, ‘The real show is yet to come. I better not get ahead of myself.”
Even with Skylar personally overseeing the acquisition, the deal still fell through. The competitor was always one step ahead, deliberately driving up prices to sabotage their acquisition attempts.
Skylar put on a show of defeat in front of everyone, but once she was back in her office, her eyes crinkled with barely concealed delight. Skylar chuckled. “After buying all that worthless junk, they must be livid.”
Elianna, feeling smug and convinced she’d finally outsmarted Skylar, popped open a bottle of red wine to celebrate her “victory.”
“Skylar, how does it feel to be on the edge?” Elianna cackled drunkenly between gulps of wine, unable to contain her glee.
“Skylar, this is only the beginning. There’s more to come!” Elianna was chuckling with glee, nearly dancing with delight.
Aaron suddenly stormed in and slapped Elianna hard across the face. “I dragged you out of the gutter so you could damn well work for me, not screw things up!”
“Damn it, now you’ve screwed up everything. Blew through all my money, and now you’re popping open wine to celebrate? You useless piece of trash!”
Aaron grabbed Elianna by the collar and struck her face repeatedly with brutal slaps. “You ungrateful bitch!”
