Chapter 6
“No! Hazel, you don’t have to beg Caroline! She’s not worth it!”
Adrian shot me a glare so fierce it was as if I were the villain in all of this.

More and more people gathered around, but I had no interest in putting on a show. I turned and walked away without another
word.
Maybe Hazel had caused enough of a scene this time, because Adrian didn’t come looking for me again.
I threw myself into my studies and joined a few campus organizations. That was where I met Finn Callahan.
Finn was the son of the Northlands‘ Alpha King. He was gentle and kind, but carried a quiet, domineering presence.
He specialized in constitutional and public law. We’d often have long, thoughtful conversations about policies and ideas. Bit by
bit, we became friends.
But just as life started to settle down, I received emails from Adrian.
“Caroline, I was wrong. Please come back to the pack, will you?”
“Hazel was pregnant. The pup’s mine.”
“I love you, I swear. You have to believe me.”
“Why are you still so stubborn? I’ve apologized so many times. What more do you want from me?”
I didn’t hesitate for a second and deleted every one of his emails.
How could he still believe I’d come back? He was shameless beyond words.
One day after class, I was wiping tables in the restaurant when I looked up and saw Finn sitting at the next table.
I pressed my lips together and headed straight for the kitchen.
When my shift ended, he was still there, his meal barely touched.
“Sit and eat with me,” he said gently.
“I’ve already eaten,” I tried to refuse, but right then, my stomach let out a loud growl.
He chuckled. “Hey, food comes first. Come on, have a seat.”
It had been so long since I’d tasted good meat. I couldn’t help myself. I wolfed down the food, barely caring about appearances.
The money my parents left behind was just enough to cover my tuition. Everything else, I had to earn myself.

It had been ages since I’d had a meal like this.
“Slow down,” Finn reminded me.
I nodded, and my cheeks flushed as I realized just how close he was sitting.
Every time he was near, his presence calmed me. Both my wolf and I felt completely at ease.
But after finally breaking free from my old life, I made up my mind to stop thinking about love.

When winter break came, I had planned to stay on campus, but Eleanor kept urging me to return to the pack for the holidays.
After everything they’d done for me after my parents passed, I couldn’t just ignore the bond we once shared.
So, I packed a few gifts and returned to the Darkmoon Pack.
As soon as I approached the Westwood residence, I heard the shrill sound of an argument inside.
“Adrian, I’m carrying your pup! How can you treat me like this?” Hazel shouted, her voice sharp and her face flushed with anger
as she clutched her belly.
Hearing this, I stopped in my tracks.
Adrian gently soothed her, “Hazel, take a deep breath. Getting upset isn’t good for the pup.”
“I want that bracelet! Buy it for me now!”
“Can we wait until next month? I’ve already used up all my allowance,” he said, trying not to anger her further.
“Did you give it all to your ex?” Hazel asked through gritted teeth.
“You have to believe me. I haven’t been in touch with her for ages.”
Hazel let out a cold laugh. “Not in touch? Then, who are all those emails for? You don’t love me! You’re still thinking about her!”
she cried, pounding her fists against his chest.
Adrian’s patience finally snapped. “I told you, I haven’t contacted her!”
Watching them fight, I could only shake my head.
In my previous life, Adrian secretly gave money to Hazel behind my back. But in this life, he was secretly sending me emails
behind Hazel’s back.
He had never truly loved anyone. He didn’t even understand what loyalty meant.
Eleanor saw me standing in the doorway and quickly rushed over, grabbing my hand. “Caroline, you’re finally home! Come, check
on Hazel. She…”

I shook my head. “The trip was long. I’m tired and want to rest.”
Her smile faltered, but she nodded and went off to help soothe Hazel.
She was nothing like the bitter mother–in–law I remembered from my previous life when it came to Hazel.
I went to my room and pulled out the Christmas present Finn had given me. It was a beautiful necklace.
When I put it on, I couldn’t help but smile.
Later that night, I heard a knock at my door.
