“You came here to have dinner with friends?“Hannah repeated, then let out a mocking laugh. “Sorry, Serena, I just couldn’t help
myself.”
“But I didn’t expect that now, without a job, you’d still be so extravagant, coming to a place like this with friends.

I could hear the sarcasm in her tone, implying I was bluffing, putting on a show.
“Serena, I never thought you’d stoop to this,” Zach said, his voice dripping with disdain.
Seeing this, I didn’t bother explaining. He wouldn’t believe me anyway; any explanation would just waste breath.
Zach thought my silence meant guilt, and even more, that Hannah’s judgment was correct.
He sneered, “Life hasn’t been easy since you left me, has it? Starting to regret it now?”
I couldn’t help but smile. It seemed he still didn’t know that I had already joined Diana’s company.
Well, of course he’d never been interested in my activities. Not knowing post–breakup was normal.
He was about to continue when he sighed meaningfully, “To be honest, I wasn’t planning on forgiving you.”
“But after all, we were a couple, and it’s not like I don’t have any feelings for you. And you went out of your way to come here yourself. I’ll give you one more chance, show me you can do better.”
Hearing this, I raised an eyebrow and glanced at Hannah. She clearly just realized Zach’s decision and looked flustered, but didn’t dare say anything at first.
After a pause, she finally stammered, “Zach, you should think this through… getting back together isn’t always a good idea.”
I almost laughed. It seemed they hadn’t coordinated their story.
Zach, ignoring Hannah, smirked and continued toward me.“Did you hear that, Serena? Actually, many friends advised me not to get back together with you, to stop myself in time.”
“They all say you’re not good enough for me anymore. Do you know how many people urged me to break up with you every single day? I didn’t, because I still cared about our past. I kept tolerating you, again and again.”
“I really don’t know what you were thinking, what pills you took, or whose words you believed, to go and break up with me on your own.”
“Everyone knows how happy you were, but only you didn’t cherish it at all.“Zach kept talking without pause.
Yes. His net worth now far exceeded mine, and he had repeatedly reminded me of the unequal dynamic between us. He was with me out of lingering feelings from the past, not love.
I was about to respond when a voice interrupted from the side. “Serena, who are these two?”
