I knew very well that Zach wouldn’t agree. He understood perfectly that the shares and assets were the reasons Hannah wanted to be
with him.
Sure enough, there was nearly five minutes of silence on his end. Finally, Hannah couldn’t hold back and spoke indignantly, “Serena, your condition is way too much!”
“Do you have any idea how much effort Zach put into building this company?”
“And you think you can just take half of everything he owns with a single demand? Don’t you think that’s unreasonable?”
I didn’t bother to expose her intentions. In a calm voice, I replied, “Zach, we’re all adults. You should know that you can’t have everything without giving something up.
“You want everything to go your way without any sacrifice. Why should you be the only one who gets off scot–free? Think it over. You have three days.”
After saying that, I hung up the phone. I thought Zach would give up. But by evening, I received another call from him.
He said that half was too much, could I settle for twenty percent? I told him directly, “half is half. Not a fraction less will I agree. If you can’t give it, don’t call me again.”
Yet this left me somewhat puzzled. It seemed Zach really didn’t want to break up.
But why? Wasn’t he the one who initially wanted to end things?
That day in the hotel, he said he feared what others might think, but it was I who took the initiative to propose the breakup. And under those circumstances, it shouldn’t have driven him to this extent.
But I didn’t dwell on it. Soon, the three days passed, and Zach hadn’t contacted me at all.

By the time I got home, it was already past midnight. I washed up, and in a daze, had just laid down when I received a call from Zach.
My peaceful sleep was interrupted, and I was annoyed, about to hang up. But, still dizzy from alcohol, I accidentally pressed the “answer” button.
“Hello, is this the girlfriend of Mr. Zach Mitchell? Mr. Mitchell has had too much to drink and refuses to go home. We found your number in his phone. To prevent any accidents, could you come pick him up?”
I blinked awake slightly.“Sorry, can you ask someone else?”
“But Mr. Mitchell is insisting it has to be you. He even said that if anything happens to him and you’re not here, you’ll be held responsible.”
A could laugh escaped me. I sat up.“Okay, send me the location.”
Hearing this, the person on the line seemed pleased. After hanging up, they immediately added me on their contact list and sent a location pin.
I glanced at it. Then, I called the police.
