Chapter 22
“Hannah, what’s wrong?”
Zach’s expression changed instantly. Almost without hesitation, he hurried forward and lifted her up, his eyes filled with worry.
Hannah lay on the ground, pale as death, silent. Zach grew increasingly anxious. Supporting her, he quickly walked to the car.
Just as he was about to seat her in the back, he suddenly thought of me and cast a hesitant glance in my direction.
I knew exactly what he was thinking. “A life is at stake. Go take her to the hospital.”
Biting his lip, Zach seemed to make up his mind. “Wait for me at your new place. I’ll come find you after I get her to the hospital.”
He placed Hannah in the back seat and got into the driver’s seat. As the car sped off, I felt nothing but calm.
I didn’t know if Zach had caught on, but I was sure Hannah was faking it. But that was no longer my problem.
Just as I was about to drive to my new apartment, I received a call from Diana.
The second project had gone viral online, quickly gathering a large fan base. Some international companies were now seeking cooperation with us.
She wanted me to accompany her on a sudden business trip. I agreed without hesitation and immediately turned the car toward the airport.
The schedule was tight. Upon arrival, we rushed to prepare the proposal. To ensure smooth communication with the foreign company, we also made a translated version.
Previously, our knowledge of these companies had been limited. To avoid mistakes, we worked against the clock, detailing every advantage our company had.
We were so busy that we sometimes only slept four hours a night, occasionally even dozing while standing.
Fortunately, our efforts paid off. After the meeting, the translator told us that the company felt we were well–prepared and that our proposal was complete–they agreed to collaborate.
Diana and I hugged each other in excitement, finally able to sleep soundly that night.
During those days, I hadn’t had time to check my messages, and only then did I notice that Zach had sent me numerous texts and called repeatedly.
He had gone to the new apartment building and asked why I wasn’t there. I hadn’t expected him to actually come looking for me. After all, in the past, anything involving Hannah would consume his entire attention, making him forget I even existed.
I considered it for a moment, then decided against replying. By now, he’d probably put it out of his mind entirely. We were no longer part of each other’s lives. Dragging it out felt pointless.
Diana and I traveled a bit more abroad, visiting recommended local attractions before returning home. By the time I arrived at the airport, it was already late at night.
After parting ways with Diana and returning home, I just lay down on my big bed when a loud banging echoed at the door.
The sound was harsh in the empty hallway, as if venting anger. Assuming it was some enemy causing trouble, I angrily got up and opened the door.
As soon as I did, a figure lunged at me. I stumbled back several steps, unable to dodge in time.
Astrong scent of alcohol mixed with a familiar fragrance hit me. Who else could it be if not Zach? I felt a wave of helplessness.
“What are you doing here?” I asked, “Wasn’t it agreed that we’re no longer involved?”
Zach let out a drunken burp. “Right, we’re no longer involved. I’m with Hannah now.”
