Chapter 28
“The recording is real. I admit that I maliciously framed Serena to protect Hannah,” Zach’s voice rang out, clear and deliberate.
Everyone present heard it unmistakably. The live broadcast first went quiet, then the chat exploded again with rapid–fire messages, cursing Zach and Hannah.
Hannah completely lost control. Her eyes were bloodshot as she struggled hysterically, lunging for Zach’s throat. The court officers finally subdued her, pinning her face–down to the floor.
Zach walked over to me and apologized, asking why I had come prepared in advance.
I remained calm, as always, and explained to him the entire chain of events.
Shortly after I left Zach, Diana accidentally learned of their scheme and warned me to be cautious. When I went to Zach’s house to fix the water pipe that day, I already knew there was a chance I would fall into his trap.
Yet I still went–not only out of concern for him, but also because of Diana’s and my plan. After our project went viral, we needed rapid expansion.
That’s why Diana and I had been considering acquiring Zach’s company. We had just never found the right opportunity. Zach essentially delivered the perfect chance to us.
Initially, I hesitated. But his complete indifference toward me that day made my decision final. I spoke slowly, word by word, revealing truths he didn’t know.
Zach smiled, as if relieved. “So that’s how it is.”
A cold dread shot down my spine as I watched him smile. My instincts screamed that something was terribly wrong. Then I saw a glint of metal, a blade in his hand.
Before I could react, he spun around in a blur. With a swift motion, the once–hysterical Hannah had her throat cut. Her eyes widened, and she collapsed into a pool of blood.
The staff had no idea he would act like this. They tried to intervene, but it was too late.
As if he’d participated it a thousand times in his mind, Zach drew the blade across his own wrist without a moment’s hesitation.
As he fell, he smiled at me, his lips moving silently, as if saying, “Serena, one last time… I’m helping you.”
The scene erupted into chaos. Someone called an ambulance.
Soon, both were rushed to the hospital. Hannah could not be saved and died two lives were lost. Zach survived despite severe blood loss.
He was taken into police custody for malicious homicide and sent to prison, ultimately sentenced to death..
After the online public opinion reversed, Diana considered acquiring Zach’s company but eventually decided against it. She agreed with me that such a path felt morally wrong.
Instead, we continued step by step, steadily advancing toward our goals.
Curiously, on that day, Zach’s lawyer contacted me, informing me that Zach had made a will, transferring all his shares and assets to
- me.
After Zach’s death, I had full control over all his property. Thinking it over, I renamed the company and changed its nature.
Its new focus was on helping all businesses investigate employees on blacklists, with very affordable fees, allowing even the smallest companies to place orders. This helped ordinary workers who had inadvertently ended up on blacklists.
I stood atop the once–glorious building, looking down at the world below. From that moment on, my life was smooth sailing, rising steadily, prosperous and unstoppable.
