Chapter 12
“I didn’t do anything wrong,” she continued, her voice trembling slightly with rage from her wolf.
“I just told a few harsh truths-and she responded with that sickly sweet, fake attitude. Passive-aggressive, pretending to be all
innocent.”
She let out a bitter laugh, filled with
bewilderment.
“You two were practically all over each other right in front of me. What’s next? Planning to
share the same bed?”
“Don’t forget, although we’ve done the bonding ceremony, we haven’t signed the mate contract yet. Seeing your behavior now, I don’t think we need to bother signing it.”
With that, she spun around abruptly, stomping off in a fury.
Kieran stood there, utterly stunned, unable to believe how quickly the situation had

escalated.
He knew Diana had a fiery temper, but this… this was beyond anything he anticipated.
All this over something so trivial?
Now she was even threatening not to sign the
mate contract?
He watched her retreating figure, feeling a surge of panic.
His heart sped up.
Would she really follow through with her
words?
Without a second thought, Kieran turned to go
after her.
But Alice grabbed his arm, stopping him in his
tracks.
“Where are you going?” she asked, her voice
soft but firm.
Kieran hesitated for a moment, then sighed.

Because it was
calm.
“Diana has never been this angry before. I have to talk to her before she really leaves and refuses to sign the mate contract.”
Even as he spoke, he couldn’t help but cast a look of blame at Alice.
If she hadn’t pushed Diana, none of this would have happened.
Alice noticed, and that look? It stung.
She couldn’t understand why her own son
would react this way.
But Kieran was, after all, her flesh and blood.
If she had any chance-any real chance-to have him in her life, she needed to control the
situation now.
Set the tone. Tame the young she-wolf early.
With this in mind, she smiled and spoke softly,

“Don’t worry. Your relationship has come this far-Diana won’t back out over something like
this.”
“But if you chase after her now, she’ll hold the upper hand in your mate relationship.”
Kieran halted, frowning.
Seeing this, Alice stepped closer.
“The mate bond is a balance of power,” she said smoothly. “Either you hold the reins, or she
does.”
“If you give in now, you’ll never stand tall.”
“Trust me, give her thirty minutes. An hour at
most.”
“She’ll come to you. And even if she doesn’t, she won’t refuse to be your mate over this. I’m a she-wolf too, Kieran. I know.”
Her voice was calm, laced with feigned concern, and Kieran believed every word.
He had been with Diana for years.

But there was always one issue-he wanted her to devote more to their family post-marriage.
Diana always resisted.
She had her career, her ambitions, a life that
wasn’t centered on being someone’s mate. And that frustrated Kieran.
So maybe… maybe Alice was right.
If Diana refused to compromise, now might be
his chance to push her.
At least, if things cooled off, they could move on like they always did.
And he was confident in their bond.
He believed Diana wouldn’t really leave him
because of this. Not really.
Not after everything they had been through.
So he stopped, hesitated.
Then, Kieran didn’t follow her, turning to

Alice, as if this was some necessary tactic, and sighed, walking away from the confrontation.
But what Kieran didn’t know-Diana never intended to leave for good.
This outburst? It was just a warning, a cry for
some space.
To cool down. Maybe gain some temporary
distance.
But the Moon Goddess had other plans.
Because Kieran’s earlier conversation with
Jameson—those condescending words dismissing all Zara’s efforts-was overheard.
Unfortunately, a member of Diana’s pack, who had just stepped out of the guest room, caught every word.
Someone who chose the right moment.
And had heard everything.
