Chapter 7
When I married Jameson, neither of us had
much money.
In fact, most of the expenses for our wedding ceremony were covered by my savings. Even the house we moved into after the wedding was
bought with my dowry.
Back then, we were truly happy. I once thought that becoming mates with Jameson was the best decision of my life. But somewhere along the way, everything changed.
Now, dressed in a well-tailored suit, Jameson was lost in memories. Our son, Kieran, had
completed all the rituals with his mate, Diana, and they stood before us, hand in hand, beaming with happiness.
Kieran introduced them, “Diana, these are my parents. You can address them now.”
Alice clutched a gift in her hand, ready to
present it to Diana at that exact moment she
called her “mom.” Alice had once believed that

remaining unmarried gave her freedom, but as she aged, loneliness crept in. Even though Jameson was by her side, he had a mate and couldn’t always be there when she needed him.
But she still had Kieran. Even if Kieran didn’t
know she was his biological mother, that didn’t matter anymore. What mattered was that
today, in front of all the pack members, he
would call her “mom,” and that was enough to fill her with pride.
Alice smiled triumphantly, just as Diana opened
her mouth to speak. Suddenly, Jameson stood
“This isn’t right!” he declared firmly.
Kieran froze and rushed forward, attempting to
push Jameson back into his seat. “Dad, what are you doing? Has Diana done something to
upset you?”
A sliver of panic crossed Kieran’s face, and
Diana looked confused. But Alice understood
Jameson-they had shared forty years together. She instantly saw where Jameson’s gaze was directed-the entrance to the party hall.

At that moment, she knew what had happened. She grabbed Jameson’s arm and whispered desperately, “Zara isn’t coming. You promised me, Jameson. You swore you’d hear Kieran call me ‘mom.’ We’ve come this far; let it happen.”
Her grip tightened like iron shackles around
Jameson’s arm.
Jameson felt the eyes of everyone in the room -Kieran’s, Diana’s, even the guests’. If he didn’t comply, everyone would start questioning and pack members would begin whispering. He had told his relatives why I wasn’t at the ceremony, but even so, their gaze remained sharp and filled with undisclosed awareness.
Everyone who knew Jameson was aware-we had been mates for forty years. What possible explanation could justify my absence, and if I couldn’t attend, why would he bring another she-wolf in my place?
The truth hung in the air, obvious, but no one wanted to break it today. After all, it was Kieran’s bonding ceremony, most guests were Jameson’s relatives, and they wouldn’t cause a

scene.
As for Diana’s pack members? They were still in the dark, assuming Alice was his real mother.
Then Jameson relaxed, closed his eyes tightly.
Kieran whispered something to Diana, and the ceremony resumed. In the end, Alice got
her wish; she heard Kieran call her “mom,”
and Diana also echoed “mom.” She looked
thoroughly pleased.
Later, after the last guest had been seen off, Kieran pulled Jameson aside, noticeably
irritated. “What was that about?” he
reprimanded in a low voice.
“If I hadn’t explained in time, Diana would have
been suspicious. What if she’d panicked and
canceled the ceremony? Do you want me to
never have a mate?”
Jameson sighed deeply and rubbed his temples.
“Alice isn’t your biological mother,” he said softly. “Diana will eventually learn the truth.

You two will be living with your real mother. Don’t forget, you and Diana are only staying in that small guest room for one night; after that, you have to move back.”
“When you go home, she’ll see your real mom. What then? Are you going to keep lying to her
forever?”
