Chapter 113
LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POV
…
“These should help with the pain,” Clifford said, handing me back my pouch.
I nodded, grateful, despite a little ache in my lower belly.

The walk had cleared my head, but now that we were back at the pack walls, I was beginning to feel, uneasy.
The people paused as we passed. Mothers pulled their children closer.
I hugged the satchel tighter, confused.
What did they smell? Was it herbs on me, or… was it me?
Has Fiona cooked up rubbish and fed it to them?
Clifford noticed too.
His stance instantly changed. He leaned toward me, “Don’t look back. Keep walking.”
But it was impossible not to. Every step felt heavier, their eyes cutting deeper, their fear almost tangible, almost hungry.
And then, as we reached the gate.
My stomach dropped. The ache in my lower belly told me the truth before my mind caught up. Then warmth slid down my thigh.
Of all times. My monthly flow had to come now? According to my calculations, I’m not supposed to have my monthly flow till next week.
“Stop!” A loud voice boomed.
I paused and looked up to see Elder Lorenzo. He stepped forward. His head lifted, his nose twitched and his eyes narrowed with a hunger I’d never seen in him before.
I shifted closer to Clifford, confused and uncomfortable.
Why on earth was Elder Lorenzo staring at me like that?
Then his body started trembling uncontrollably. Grey feathers grew from his arms, bones snapping with a sick twist of sound. His head jerked, reshaping, his eyes widening into black
void.

My jaw dropped and my eyes went wide as goosebumps spread all over my skin.
He was…. An owl?

But not like the harmless night creatures I’d glimpsed before. No–this was ugly, monstrous, twisted. His half–formed wings snapped out with a crack that split the air, feathers cutting like knives as they rained down.
I screamed soo loud that my cars hurt, I stumbled back, my hands wrapped around Clifford’s arm. But I couldn’t stop shaking.
Why was he doing this? Why was Elder Lorenzo looking at me like I wasn’t even a person, like I was prey? Like he wanted to kill me.
My belly clenched harder, warmth sliding faster between my thighs, betraying me. My legs trembled so badly I almost collapsed.
And then–he shrieked. A piercing, bone–shattering sound that made my ears ring, my vision blur.
He launched forward, wings flaring, talons curling toward me-
Is this it? How I’ll die? In the hands of an Elder without knowing the reason?
Clifford stepped in front of me. I didn’t even realise he was even halfway shifting.
And then I felt it. That heat. That
power.
Alexander.
He didn’t just step into the courtyard. He came in like a flash.
I blinked and he was already there, beside me, one of the maids‘ throats shredded open in his grip, her body falling like an abandoned rag. Blood drenched his arm, dripping from his claws
in thick streams.
“Alex!” I gasped.
He didn’t hear me. Or maybe he didn’t care.
The second maid behind me tried to scramble away, but he caught her head before she could take a step. A sickening crack echoed, her headless body dropping at my feet.
Gasps erupted around the courtyard and everyone scattered.
Alexander turned slowly, his chest heaving, his eyes like a ball of fire and his fangs already out. He looked monstrous, untamed–no trace of restraint. Only death.

And then his eyes landed on me.

For one heartbeat I thought he’d lost himself completely–that he would tear through me just as easily.
That he would shift into a dragon, right here and right now.
Fully or not.
But instead he stepped in front of me, shoulders squared, his body a wall of blood and rage between me and Lorenzo.
“You dare.” His voice was not his own. It rumbled, deep and primal. “You dare touch what’s
mine?”
Lorenzo, still half–shifted, feathers bristling down his arms, snarled back–but I saw it. The hesitation in his grey eyes.
“She reeks of dr-”
“Leonard,” Alexander cut him off, his growl shaking the stones beneath our feet. His voice was fire and thunder all at once. “Use your nose wisely before raising your filthy talons against my
Luna.”
I swallowed hard.
Lorenzo’s half–shifted body quivered, feathers dripping blood where Alexander had already clawed him. His pitch black–owl eyes narrowed, but he didn’t strike again. Not with Alexander standing there–feral, blood–drenched and looked like he would enlarge any moment from
now.
I squeezed Clifford’s arm tighter, my chest rising in short breaths. Alexander hadn’t shifted fully, but the heat rolling off him was unbearable, suffocating.
He looked like he would burn the whole world. “You shouldn’t be outside.” He sneered.
I blink at him, confused. But I was too scared to say anything. I bent quickly, picking up my bag and books and pressing it tight against my stomach.
But it was too late.
I felt his eyes on me before I even looked up.
His gaze cut to the book in my hands, the fury in his face wasn’t aimed at Lorenzo.
It was aimed at me.

“Aquamarine,” his voice was low, dangerous, “what the hell did I tell you about touching that book?”
I swallowed hard and shook my head. “Nothing,” I stammered.
“Aquamarine,” he growled, voice low and deadly. “Give. Me. The. Bag.”
“I—I wasn’t—I just wanted, I only-” My words tripped over in jargons even I couldn’t understand. But the more I spoke, the darker his expression grew.
He stepped closer, blood from the maids still dripping from his hands, the stench of death clinging to him. My heart pounded so hard it hurt.
He leaned in close, so near I felt the heat of his breath on my ear. “Don’t make me do what’s in my mind Aqua.”
“I wasn’t—” My throat closed, my hands trembling around the Book.
His jaw clenched, fury simmering so raw it made my skin prickle. Without another word, grabbed my arm roughly.
“Alex-”
He didn’t give me a chance. He just dragged me away with him.
Clifford stepped forward but I signaled him to stay back. I didn’t want anything to happen to
him because of me.
The courtyard was dead quiet. No one breathed, no one moved.
