Chapter 36
LUNA AQUAMARINE’S POV
“The only rule is not to kill each other!” Alexander’s voice echoed as he stepped back.
I still thought it was a bad idea. A terrible one even.
But Gaia didn’t even let me breathe before she started attacking me with her vines. She just launched herself at me as if she had been waiting for this moment for days.
Her mini vines were trying to wrap me up like the last time. But I started waving the daggers in the air, cutting the vines in
the process.
It seemed easy and I was starting to think I was worried for nothing.
But the more I sliced through the vines, the more my arms got tired and the more the vines were increasing.
I should have known better.
Before I could react, one of the vines caught my leg and I collapsed to the floor. Gaia towered over me, but her vines held
my shoulders down.
“I’m going to erase these marks he gave you. I should be the one with his mark not you,” she sneered as her eyes roamed all over my body. “The devil belongs to me.”
Her warnings put me on the edge. How could she be fighting for a man who had claimed another? Is this what obsession is
like?
I managed to raise my head and give her a headbutt that sent her head jerking back. Sure, it also made me dizzy but I managed to get the vines off me.
I
But by the time she recovered, her aura had changed drastically. Like I had uprooted her from the ground forcefully.
Fear gripped me and my eyes snapped to her wrist. The bracelet was still in place but I was beginning to think it was
broken.
She shrieked and immediately, the vines hardened a little and started hitting the ground with force. But it was so close to my face that I could only dodge some, while the rest slashed through my skin.
She was out to kill. Again. And the person who initiated the whole thing just stood with folded arms, watching everything unfold.
“Shift,” Alexander mouthed but I acted like I didn’t see him.
What good would shifting do in this situation?
The vines were wrapped around my wrists now. Controlling my armis, it crossed the dagger close to my neck like she was aiming to kill me, I tried pulling it away but the weight of her vines kept pushing my arms down.
“Shift!” I heard Alexander shout this time but I couldn’t do anything.

I closed my eyes tightly and pictured myself shifting to a werewolf. My true form, but I felt nothing. No changes, no pain of shifting. No fur or overgrown fangs.
Beads of sweat trickled down my face and a sense of dread washed over me.
I can’t shift.
I heard Alexander’s voice again, commanding me to shift. But I continued what I was doing till the warm blade was already. on my skin and I could feel it slowly sinking in.
Gaia’s eyes lit up as her smile widened and she started laughing.
Before I knew what was happening, Gaia was suddenly yanked away from me and thrown like a rag, but her vines seemed to balance her.
Alexander towered above me. His eyes were sharp and his jaw was clenched. His eyes searched my face as it slowly began taking another shade.
Sweat trickled down my skin as his gaze burned my skin. He grabbed my arm and threw me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and headed towards the carriage.
While we passed, I watched Juliet adjusting Gaia’s bracelet while Levi and Gaia just stared at me.
The ride was fast as the horse galloped away but my mind was like a raging sea. Immediately we came down, Alexander didn’t waste time in carrying me to the room and banging the door behind him.
He threw me on the bed and stood at the edge. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“T–tell you what?” I stammered, looking everywhere but his face. I simply couldn’t stare at his eyes.
“Don’t play games with me Aquamarine! Why didn’t you tell me that you can’t shift? How could you keep something important like this from me?”
“I thought it didn’t matter because-”
“You thought it didn’t matter?” Alexander interrupted me. His voice sharp and low like he was trying his best not to kill me.
“You didn’t ask, you never asked anything. You just disappear in the mornings and show up when you’re ready to have sex.” I replied.
“As the Primus, I have responsibilities and you as the Luna, you also have yours! You don’t expect me to sit with you and talk about dresses and flowers!”
“That’s not what I’m asking for either!” Iyelled at him and ran my fingers through my hair. I was starting to get frustrated.
Why can’t he see what’s happening? Why can’t he open his eyes and mind for once?
I took in a deep breath and released it. “Yes, I can’t shift,” I admitted. “I just got my wolf the day you showed up. I was able to feel it within me but for some reason I don’t know, I just can’t shift.”
Silence.

“It never happened even after we met. Times I found myself in danger or when facing a threat I’m unable to do anything. I’m unable to shift.” I added, but my voice had already come down.
I looked up at him to see him still staring at me. It was soo intense that it made my heart jump out of my body.
I looked down at my feet.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
But what exactly am I apologising for?
Not beating him in his fight? Not winning against Gaia? Or not being able to shift?
But he didn’t say anything. He just stood there, staring down at me.
“It seemed soo good to be true anyway,” he whispered but I could hear the disappointment in his voice.
His words made my stomach churn for a reason. I had no idea what he meant but it hurt. More than anything.
More than rejection itself.
A lump formed in my throat.
I wasn’t even able to swallow or breathe properly. I just stared at my feet. “Yes, you’re right. Maybe Fiona or Gaia would have been a better fit for you,” I murmured.
Both of them are really strong. Even Katherine can shift but I can’t. I never really cared about it, till now.
“Don’t make this about Gaia or whatever. Gaia is just a temporary threat,” he said dismissively.
“If she’s a threat, why is she still here? In this pack where you don’t accept dark magic.”
“Like I said a few nights ago, it’s pack business.” He snapped at me, “You don’t need to know everything.”
His words instantly angered me.
“I need to know! Do I always need to remind you how many times she tried to kill me? Isn’t that enough reason for you? If my death doesn’t matter to you, why did you save me from my pack?”
I felt him stiffen at my words and he grunted.
I managed to raise my head up, but I still didn’t look at his face. “I’m not saying you should treat me like a baby or care for me. I’m fine on my own, whether I can shift or not. I’m not the Moon Goddess who decides fate. I just don’t want to die at the hands of something I know nothing about.”
He was still silent but I felt his body heat slowly rising. But he still stood speechless.
I released a sigh. What am I even doing? What am I even fighting for? I needed to see Katherine.
Before I could turn around, Alexander held my arm. “Me and Gaia had history but our relationship was supposed to be a one–time thing but she grew obsessed even after we stopped seeing each other.”

I already knew that. But that’s not what I wanted to hear.
“As you can see, she’s still trying to get to me and get your position as the Luna. Our kingdoms formed a pact and she broke it. She started using dark magic and she isn’t stable enough yet. If I refuse her, I don’t know what would happen.” He said the last sentence low.
That made sense, kind of. “But that isn’t enough reason. What if she kills me tomorrow? You already warned her before
and she’s not answering you.”
“I know. That’s why I assigned two of my strongest men for your protection even though her stay here is very limited.”
“But-”
“Who did I mate with?” Alexander interrupted me.
I scoffed, “You’ve had sex with more women than I’ve seen.”
But Alexander shot me a look that instantly shut me up. “Who did I mark?”
“Me.”
“Who bears the crown?” he asked again.
“Me.”
“So why are you fuming over a mere woman with attachment issues? I know Gaia. If she was able to kill you, she would have done it during her first attack.”
I looked away from him but he raised my chin to face him. “Remember the position you hold here. You’re above everyone here. Act like the Luna you promised to be.”
I nodded, even though I knew that thing wouldn’t be soo easy.
“Since you’re complaining about not having anything to do, I want that scroll opened and read to me in 2 days. Don’t forget whose life is on the line.”
With that, he turned his back and went to the table. He opened one of the drawers and started searching for something then all of a sudden, he growled and flinched back.
Cursing as he held his hand as if he were in pain. I rushed to him and saw him glaring at something, but the moment I touched him his jaw clenched and he closed his eyes.
“2 days,” he muttered and walked out.
I feel soo stupid. Utterly stupid.
Why do I keep forgetting the person he really is? The devil he really is.
I stared at the daggers on the floor and two names popped up in my mind.
Esmeralda and Gaia.
