Chapter 44
PRIMUS ALEXANDER’S POV
Aquamarine cut me off immediately, a concerned look on her face as her brows creased together. “It’s nothing serious
Primus-”
“Just call me Alex, Aqua,” I sighed. “I don’t know why you call me Primus even when we’re alone,” I complained. But she shook her head instead.
“Are you sure you don’t need Juliet’s help?” I asked, still worried.
“I’ll be fine if it’s just us,” she said shyly and snuggled up to me, resting her head on my chest.
This moment felt…. perfect and peaceful.
But the silence was broken by Aquamarine’s voice. “I’m scared of storms.”
I already noticed that in her old pack.
But last night was worse. She kept screaming and begging me to stop.
But stop exactly?
She kept shivering even though I was soo close to her and sharing my heat. I have never been soo scared all my life.
All the while, she kept crying out my name and Kath’s. It hurt in an entirely different sense to me. But I had to ask. I had to take this step.
“Why?” I asked gently.
She released a breath against my chest. “Beta Liam, my father. He used to hit me and lock me outside, especially during storms.”
My lips twitched and I growled lowly.
I remember the way his eyes were trembling that night I tortured him. If I had known the extent to reach he had always treated Aqua, I would have given him a level 3.
“You don’t need to get angry Alex,” she waved it off, like it wasn’t a big deal. I let out a disgruntled huff.
But still, I felt the pain behind those words. “I understand. But you don’t need to worry about anyone anymore,” I said, trying to reassure her. “You’re safe with me.”
The last thing I wanted her to do was to think back to last night’s event.
After a while she spoke again. “I tricked Jul-”
“Juliet, your guards and Aaron,” I completed, quite impressed with her little scheme. “Aaron told me about the old lady with your aura. Little Flame is getting smarter and sneakier,” I snickered, patting her head.

Aqua squeaked out a laugh into my chest and I laughed. I was quite sure she didn’t know it was Aaron she met at the gate.
After she recovered from her embarrassment, she glanced up at me again, “I’m sorry. I just wanted to get the pendant you gave me back from her. I felt it meant something so I didn’t want to lose it.”
I shot her a look, “Don’t apologise.” I said, tracing my fingers down her spine. “You shouldn’t talk too much. Rest now.”
I wanted to run my fingers through her hair and sniff it. But I didn’t want her to think I’m a freak or something. Especially now that she’s conscious about my interest in it.
“But next time something happens, let me know. Under no circumstances must you risk your life for mine. Don’t trust
anyone either. Not even from The Order. When you have a problem, tell me. If I’m out of reach, tell Levi. Juliet is also available for you.”
Aqua nuzzled back into my neck, inhaling deeply, and asked, “You’ve been awake since last night. How are you making this heat? Will you be okay?”
I chuckled, surprised she noticed my sleepless night, “You’ll know soon enough but for now, please rest. If your Kath
comes back, I think she might silently kill me.”
Aqua laughed softly, then stopped. “I love her,” she said, her voice filled with affection.
I knew Kath had a special place in Aquamarine’s heart. I’d seen it before – the way Kath cared for her, the way Aquamarine protects and fights for her.
Iknew Kath slept outside the door last night. Their relationship was indeed admirable.
“You know,” she started. “Before I met Clinton, I was…you know…cast aside. But Kath had my back, even against the pack members she used to sneak into my room after my father sent her packing. I used to imagine she was a guy and we’d run away together.” Aquamarine sighed, her voice a bit higher now.
I laughed. “What in the hell was wrong with you? Does she know this? Were you into girls? Was she into you or anything?”
These questions came out like a waterfall.
Aquamarine’s voice rose in defence of Kath. “Come on, she’s beautiful, brave, smart…
As she spoke, I couldn’t help but stare at her.
She’s talking about Kath, but her eyes keep drifting to mine,
“You’re most beautiful, Aqua,” I said while tucking some strands of hair at the back of her ear.
Her breathing hitched and she grew reddler than a tomato. I noticed the way her eyes roamed my face and then she blinked as she seemed to snap out of it
“S–she t–takes care of me a lot,” she stammered. “And honestly, I really thought we could be together romantically.”
I stared at her, taken aback. “That’s just madness, Aqua.
She let out a giggle again and I found myself smiling again.

But she didn’t stop there. She went on with another type of glow in her eyes. “You have no idea what goes on in my head. Just wait until you hear what I thought about Juliet-”
“Wow, careful with your words, Little Flame,” I patted her back. “Her man will eat you and spit you out, “I joked and we laughed again.
Then she yawned, finally. Just when I thought she would finally go to sleep, she spoke again. “Alexander, how did you find
me?”
“I felt your blood on my dagger,” I replied.
Her eyes went wide in surprise. “What do you mean?”
I cleared my throat and began explaining. “The dagger is linked to me and I can sense when it’s used. I also used your blood to…attune it to you. So when I felt your blood on it at that time of the day, I knew something was wrong.”
Aquamarine’s brows creased. “Isn’t that also dark magic?”
I shook my head. “No, it’s not. It’s part of our culture, a tradition that mates take pride in. We use blood bonds to connect with each other, to sense each other’s presence and emotions.”
Aquamarine’s eyes widened. “I see. We don’t have that in our pack.”
“Well, aside from the dagger, it’s good that you called out to me.”
Aqumarine tilted her head in confusion. “I didn’t call out to you.”
I shared the same expression with her. “You did. That’s how I was able to find you. How did you call out to me without
knowing?”
Aquamarine shook her head. “I don’t know. I didn’t feel like I was doing anything special. I just thought of being saved.”
My eyes locked onto hers. “Tell me exactly what you were thinking.”
Aquamarine knitted her brows and closed her eyes. “I was thinking…I was thinking that I needed your help, that I wished you were there. And then…and then you were.”
I studied her face, trying to understand but there was more to this than I initially thought. But I won’t press on or dig deep,
“I want to tell you something,” she whispered and opened her eyes.
I gave a small smile, “Let’s talk about it in the morning, Aqua. You need to rest.”
But she refused, “I don’t want to sleep. I want to talk to you.”
“We have all the time in the world, Aqua. Sleep now and we’ll talk later.”
Aquamarine’s face scrunched up but it was later replaced with a smirk. “How do you expect me to sleep when you’re poking me?”
