Maya roared, “How you’re doing at the Bennett house is none of our business! Lydia, let me tell you something–you only got the chance to marry a rich man because I gave it to you. If you won’t help me, then what I gave you, I can just as easily take back.”
She suddenly flew into a rage, hurling her fork across the room and glaring at me viciously.
I laughed.
I laughed at Maya’s arrogance, at how she thought everyone in the world was a fool.
I said, “Maya, since you’re so eager to live the rich life, I’ll let you have it. After all, Waylon and I aren’t married yet. If it’s something you want, Dad would move heaven and earth to make it happen for you, even if it killed him. Right, Dad?”
I turned to Michael with a smile.
Michael’s face darkened. He could hear the implication in my words.
I was exposing his blatant favoritism.
Since he’d done it, how could he not know?
Maya swallowed hard, her words becoming stuttered.

She said, “I was just looking out for you, trying to spare you from suffering. Instead of being grateful, you want to repay my kindness with hatred!”
I laughed even harder.
I asked, “Maya, are you really giving this to me, or do you actually want me dead?”
Perhaps my gaze was too fierce–Maya stepped back two paces, her waist hitting the table edge.
She said, “What the hell are you talking about?”
With that, she lunged forward in shame–fueled anger, gripping my arm tightly.
She roared, “Lydia, I’m warning you. You better talk to Waylon about the investment right now. Otherwise, I’ll make your life absolutely miserable!”
“Who exactly are you planning to make miserable?” A cold voice came from behind.
I saw Maya’s body visibly trembling.
Waylon had tortured her terribly in my past life. Having lived too long under Michael and Bella’s protection, how could she not fear a “demon” like Waylon?

“Mr. Bennell,” Maya said fearfully.
Her lips went pale, her voice shaking.

Waylon walked over slowly. Though he wore a smile, it looked utterly cold.
He said icily, “I’m only away from home for half a day, and my fiancée gets bullied in her own house?”
I don’t know why, but even though I knew Waylon was a demon, his presence at that moment brought me immense comfort.
Michael immediately stepped protectively in front of Maya.
Then he said respectfully, “Mr. Bennett, you’ve misunderstood. I just brought Maya to visit Lydia.”
Waylon continued smiling as he asked, “Since you’ve finished your visit, is there anything else?”
“No. We’ll leave right now,” Michael said.
He then pulled Maya, whose legs had gone weak, out of the house.
Waylon suddenly looked at me and asked, “Why didn’t you tell your fiancé when you were being bullied?”

His eyes held emotions I couldn’t decipher.
In my past life, Maya rarely mentioned Waylon, and I had little contact with him, so I had no idea what he was thinking. Naturally, I had to be cautious around someone like him.
“It’s nothing. Just a small matter. I can handle it,” I said with distant politeness.
Waylon looked at me deeply.
He smiled and said, “If you asked me to invest in the Garcia family, I would do it.”
I was stunned.
I became even more puzzled about Waylon’s intentions.
What exactly had Maya done in my past life to make Waylon torture her like that?
After a moment of shock, I still declined.
I said, “They don’t deserve it.”
In my past life, I walked a tragic path. In this life, Maya should walk it too.
Waylon smiled faintly.

He said, “You and Maya really are different.”
With that, he went upstairs.

Watching Waylon’s retreating figure, my buried memories suddenly surfaced. In that scene where I was burned alive, I seemed to have seen a figure that looked like Waylon running toward me.
Or was that just a hallucination before my death?
The next morning, I discovered that a large sum had been transferred out of my bank account. I instantly snapped awake.
I’d forgotten that the Garcia family knew my bank card password, and my account happened to contain the living expenses Waylon had transferred to me.
Though it wasn’t much money, the thought of the Garcia family spending my money made me sick.
I immediately called the bank to report the card lost and froze the account funds.
Every penny they’d transferred had to be returned to me.
Soon after, Maya called.
She screamed, “Lydia, are you insane? Who told you to freeze the card? Unfreeze it right now!”

Maya’s voice made me nauseous.

In my past life, when I begged Maya to ask Waylon to invest in the company, she refused.
When I asked to borrow money from her, she looked down at me arrogantly and said, “Aren’t you the one who got first place every year in finance? You can’t even solve this little problem, yet you have the nerve to ask me for money? How dare you?”
Then she threw me a hundred dollars in cash.
She said mockingly, “It wasn’t easy for you to come here. I’ll give you some money. Take a cab home.”
I’ll never forget the humiliation of that day. I begged her for money like a dog, and she truly treated me like one.
I suppressed the coldness in my eyes.
Then I said icily, “Isn’t this the path you chose?”
Without waiting for Maya to continue her tirade, I hung up directly, then transferred a hundred dollars to her with the note: [This is what I owe you.] Then I blocked her.
I figured I didn’t need to say more–she’d know exactly what I
meant.
